Hazem El Masri

We in the western world are extremely lucky ...
to have a wide set of choices to draw from when considering your personal faith.
All churches from all religions are represented...
Books are available and the power of the internet makes research and investigation very easy.

While it is true that our minds can be influenced by the images and sound coming out of Television , radio and technology... the Dude has a core belief that individuals know at an instinctive level
the difference between what is quality information and what is fake...

While overseas in the USA (Santa Cruz , California to be exact)...
The Dude was discussing such things...
eg: new levels of consciousness, the future of human beings and the challenges we have...
Anyways, a question was asked “well, what about Islam?”

The Dude paused (as to be honest he did not personally know very much about that religion) and had met very few Muslim people. The Dude thought about Afghanistan and how hard and complex things are there - and then , what about the Arab spring? and the future of Israel. Hmmm. He paused and answered in the following way...

"In Australia we have little opportunity to meet anyone who follows Islam. However, I do not believe I have anything to fear from Muslim people and I base that on with the following logic..... One of my personal loves is watching football (Rugby League). This despite the fact that there have been some very high profile players (past and present) in unsavory incidents ranging from drugs, public drunkenness, resisting arrest, driving under the influence, rape and even gang rape. These stories have upset me a great deal, as I do feel that the public do look up to these people as role models on and off the field. But then I stop ........ and take a deep breath ....... i then think of the positive contributions that other players in the code have made. Community work, selfless acts of personal time. Honorable men with calm and dependable character. When I think of those players and I start to think about that special few, one player floats to the surface - and that player is Hazem El Masri".

NB: Hazem was not born in the 60's (However, he does seem to fit the 60s somehow). The Dude points to Hazems outstanding reconciliation work (and appeals for calm) as fall out from the Cronulla riots - Great Leadership.
